Bridgeport Lions Club Youth Basketball Tournament 2021

BASKETBALL Mar 5 - Mar 7, 2021

Bridgeport, NE

The Bridgeport Lions Club is anticipating sponsoring their 15th Annual Lions Club Youth Basketball Tournament. This tournament is open to both boys and girls in grades four through eight.

As we did last year, we will attempt to introduce each player prior to the games to give the players recognition for their team, this will depend on the time schedule as the tournament progresses. We will be giving basketballs and t-shirts to the winning teams, and medals to the second-place teams.

We would like very much to have the teams from your community participate.  The dates scheduled for this year’s tournament are March 5-7, 2021. Sunday games will not begin before 12:00 noon.

We have numerous eating establishments in Bridgeport, and Prairie Winds Community Center will be available for rest and relaxation between games.  Three motels are available for any teams who may come from a distance. You can call (308) 279-1537 or (308) 262-0575 for further information.

We are looking forward to seeing you and your teams in Bridgeport this spring.

Thank you!

Sincerely,

Regular High School Rules will be followed with the following exceptions:

Games will consist of four 6-minute quarters with clock stopping at whistles!

Two 1-minute time-outs per team will be allowed per half, with one 1-minute time-out per team being allowed for each overtime period. Time-outs cannot be carried over.

Overtimes will be 2 minutes, with only one time-out. If there is a need for a second overtime, it will be sudden death (first team to score wins, except the championship game) with no timeouts. Overtime periods will begin with a jump ball.

Full-court pressure is allowed until a team has a 10-point lead. Once a team’s lead is 10 points, the full-court pressure must be taken off. This rule is for the 7th and 8th grade boys and girls divisions. There will be no full court or half-court pressing in the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade divisions.

Teams in the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade divisions may play man-to-man or zone defenses, but they will not be allowed to press with a half-court trapping defense. In addition, when a team gets ahead by 20 points we would appreciate that you have your players begin their defensive play inside the three point circle to allow the other team to run their offense. Remember this tournament is about allowing these young players to learn the game of basketball. 4th grade boys and girls divisions will shoot free throws from 12 feet.

To speed up play, once a team has a 15-point lead, the clock will operate on a running-clock basis: the clock will stop only for free throws and time-outs. Once the lead is reduced below 15 points, the clock will be stopped on all whistles.

28.5 size ball will be used for all games.

All teams must have numbers on at least one side of the jersey.

Warm-up and halftime will be five (5) minutes long, and may be reduced if time is a problem.

Each team must supply their own basketballs for warm-ups.

No other teams or players are allowed on the floor between games or during halftime to shoot.

Please be at your game site 15 minutes before you play. GAME TIME IS FORFEIT TIME!
